Old Story…
If you look around this site, you will see that I authored a book titled, Grieve With Grace: Beyond Acceptance when my beautiful wife of 30 years died from the rarest form of brain cancer known to man. She passed on January 9, 2022, leaving me bereft of all hope and the desire to live. I was in pain. And since I am a writer, I hoped to write a happy ending to a love affair cut way too short of our dreams.
My business partner, Kent Madson encouraged me to journal my thoughts as I passed through the valley of death. Fortunately, I had a terrific head start since I was also the principal author of another book on Grace: Invest With Grace: Beyond Money ~ Legendary Wealth. See below.
Grieve With Grace is not your typical take on the gut-wrenching approach to loss that most grief programs are about.
Others want you to share your feelings, and draw out the natural emotional conflicts we face after loss.
I sat through a dozen grief counseling sessions and while many helped, they lacked a structured, actionable system for moving me from mourning to the joy of life after grief. We cried, we understood, but there was little movement. All were well-intentioned but were incomplete. Like putting a band-aid over a deep cut, they prevented most infections, but they failed to address the source of the infection crushing my soul.
They HELPED but did not HEAL.
Why?
Because they confuse HOPE with STRATEGY.
Vince Lombardi said it best: Hope is NOT a strategy. He won and lost a lot of games. Winning the game of life requires a PLAN. We call it GRACE.
Programs like GriefShare permitted the tears to flow and caused me to better understand the grief process. But I did not want to UNDERSTAND… I wanted out of grief—not hope for hope… or even more and better hope. I needed a clear and tangible strategy for taking the steps required to move forward, and not remain stuck in the quicksand of time.
My partner in this movement is Cindy Bratton who will better explain the difference between the normal approach to grief counseling and the strategy of building a bridge of GRACE over your rapidly flowing river of tears: Gratitude, Resilience, Authenticity, Creativity, and Empathy.
Grieve With Grace is a lifetime book. We all experience major losses throughout our lives. My friend, Cindy Bratton, is now head of the Live With Grace Initiative and assumed the role of CEO (Chief Encouragement Officer).
