Hope to Hope

“Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.” ~ Epicurus

“When you lose hope, find a new hope…”

I wrote that on a sticky note about a year ago.

Needing some tax info, I found it this morning on a check I forgot to deposit! (This is indeed a wonderful “find” on Saint Patty’s Day!)

When we run out of hope, we need something new to hope for… to invest the one life we have to live in pursuit of something we truly want.

31 years ago I hoped for a wonderfully exciting life full of joy and wonder.

I met Jan, put my hope there, and the result was 30 years of excitement… fun… freedom… love… happiness… and a life worth living.

Our first date was January 9, 1991… and she passed exactly 30 years to the day later on January 9, 2022.

God was good to me.

I put my hope in Him and in her.

Now, I still put my hope in Him, but I am now resolving the “what do I want… what do I have the right to hope for?” question. It is important to find the answer.

In the past year, I have found Grace through my grief.

I have been quite active, both personally and in business.

If you were to ask me what I want, I can tell you.

My expectation is to soon find a plucky sidekick to share a life of freedom, happiness, joy, and fun with me as I move into the September of my years.

She will want me as much as I want her…

She will love me as much as I love her…

She will need me as much as I need her.

I built my archway of Grace over my swirling river of tears and am on the other side of the valley of dread.

I fully expect to love and be loved again.

My hope is that I will soon find my new hope!

God Bless,
Eric Richard Haas
